Restore Serve Restoration was called in to a challenging standing water remediation project in Plano, TX. The home had heavy clutter, which complicated access and required an especially diligent approach to content manipulation, containment, and controlled demolition.
When our crew arrived, the residence was deeply affected by water intrusion across multiple zones. Due to the clutter and client requests for extra protection, we set up containment barriers at several strategic points, including the family room, dining room, hallways, loft cut-outs, and entryways. Furniture was carefully wrapped, and flood‑cut walls were sealed to prevent outside air infiltration. In total, over 100 ft of 6 mm poly sheeting was deployed.
In the kitchen, cabinets, baseboards, and the central island (which was later deemed broken and covered by insurance) were removed. We also made targeted cuts behind certain upper and lower cabinetry at the adjuster’s direction, leaving undamaged uppers and exterior wall cabinets intact.
Throughout the rest of the home—living room, hallway, laundry room, adjacent bathroom, garage, bedrooms, under‑stair space, entryway, family room, and dining area—flooring, baseboards, cabinets, and necessary wall sections were removed. Flood cuts were performed consistently to expose hidden moisture while minimizing unnecessary demolition.
We maintained a detailed record of wall sections left intact, for example, the kitchen’s exterior wall behind cabinets, the pantry wall, the front side of a bath shower, and some understair and bathroom wall areas showed no staining or microbial growth and thus were spared.
Heavy clutter & restricted access: The volume of personal property demanded careful content manipulation and coordination to avoid further damage.
Containment complexity: Multiple containment zones were required because water migration paths spanned across rooms, loft spaces, and hallways.
Balancing demolition vs. preservation: The adjuster and client required detailed justification for every wall cut, so our crew had to document moisture readings, visible staining, and microbial risk before proceeding.
Airflow control: Sealing flood cuts and wrapping furniture was critical to preventing secondary contamination from uncontrolled airflow.
After removal of damaged materials and containment, the structure was ready for drying, dehumidification, and rebuild phases. The methodical approach allowed us to preserve undamaged walls and cabinetry, reducing repair costs where possible. The client appreciated our proactive containment strategy and the transparency of our documentation.
